There are two types of clutter free gifts: services and consumables.

Service Gifts

Giving a service can be perfect because it often saves time for the recipient. However, giving service gifts during social distancing can be a bit tricky. Try giving services that can be completed outside, or prepared and dropped off a the house.

Service gifts can also help support a local business if you buy a gift card now to be used later when social distance restrictions are lifted. Examples might be a massage, pedicure, manicure, facial, or haircut and highlights.

Expert tip: If providing a service gift, it is best to decide on a date that the service will be completed. This way you are accountable and the gift receiver can anticipate the service, like a fully weeded garden.

Consumable Gifts

Consumable gifts include anything that will be used up by the recipient. These include self care products like soaps, shampoos, facials, and skin care items. It can also include favorite drinks like coffee, tea, wine, beer, kombucha, or sparking water. These are guaranteed to be useful, especially if you know their favorite drink or way to relax.

Expert Tip: To make the gift extra thoughtful, actually take into account what the mom enjoys. Is she a fan of non-toxic soaps? Does she love relaxing with a candle and tea in the evening? Try to think of the routines she covets and buy these.

10 Clutter Free Social Distancing Mother’s Day Gifts

These gifts are listed in order roughly least expensive to most expensive. Many service gifts could be completely free, create little waste, and will save the mother time. Gifts don’t always have to be bought at a store, and they most definitely can be clutter free.

1. Childcare

Give her a day, morning, or evening without mother responsibilities! Obviously, this only applies if you are the spouse (due to social distancing).

Simple instructions to spouse: get all children out of the house for extended length of time.

2. Complete an Outside Service Project

Try giving services that can be completed outside for the mother. Do you have a mom in your life who loves to garden? Consider renting a tilling machine, weeding, bringing soil, setting up a compost, or completing any other project to grow yummy produce and beautiful flowers for her this summer.

3. Flowers

These can be hand picked or bought and paired with a consumable to make her day extra special. I absolutely love fresh flowers in my home, especially the bouquets found at my local farmers market, or hand picked by someone special.

4. Prepared Frozen Meals

Providing a series of frozen meals ready for the slow cooker, especially during social distancing is an extremely thoughtful and desired service. It will save the mother time, and can be used when she most needs it like on a Friday night when she’s exhausted.

You could also drop off brunch, complete with coffee, mimosas, fresh fruit, and a delightful baked good.

5. Drinks

Many coffee shops are not open currently, but her favorite type of coffee can still be bought in the store and delivered to her doorstep. Here are a few other drink ideas for the mother in your life.

  • Beer
  • Wine
  • Tea
  • Sparkling water

6. Self Care Consumables

Give self care consumables like her favorite all natural soaps, face masks, or Epsom salts. This will encourage her to spend time relaxing.

Rough Cut Soap Co. local to PNW

Rough Cut Soap Co. is local to the PNW. The owner is the creative behind the lovely scents, non-toxic ingredients, and beautiful aesthetics welcoming you into a shower or bath. She’s also a mother herself. Support another local mother and small business owner in the process by buying directly from her.

7. Baked Goods

Support a local bakery and pick up baked goods to go. Deliver fresh in the morning for breakfast in bed (if the mom is a morning person), or drop off at the doorstep. If you’re a talented baker, you could also bake it yourself.

8. Take-out

Pick up some of her favorite food and deliver it to her doorstep. This is both a service and a consumable if you take care of the order and delivery. It will save time, and can be enjoyed in the comfort of her own home.

9. Lessons

Online lessons are available through Master Class, Teachable, or Udemy. This is a great way to learn a new skill without having to leave home. Perhaps this mother wants to learn to garden, play the guitar, or is a budding author. What class could you buy for her to get started on her new hobby?

10. Subscription to Audible

During social distancing, libraries are closed. This would be a great time to buy a subscription to audible so the mom in your life can continue reading her next spy thriller, bestselling nonfiction book, or coveted how-to guide.

11. Subscription to Amazon Prime, Hulu, or Netflix

A mom might just want to kick back and binge watch a series during her special day. Make it easy for her by buying a subscription to stream entertainment.
