Reading and Writing Tutor Vancouver, WA

Vancouver Portland Tutor

Local Reading and Writing Tutor – Vancouver, WA

Does your child struggle with reading and writing? Do you find yourself at the kitchen table every evening struggling to help your child with his/her classes, especially reading and writing? I am a local Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR reading and writing tutor and could be the best investment in your child’s future. This decision is Literally Simple.

Your child will learn to prioritize assignments, gain confidence and improve his/her grades and academic performance. I will save you time by communicating with teachers and creating a plan for academic growth. As a middle school English teacher myself, I know effective ways to communicate with teachers, strategies to improve literacy skills, and ways to prepare for assessments. Many tutors in the area, have not actually been a classroom teacher, but I’ve mastered the art of classroom teaching, with a decade of experience.

My Experience

Tutoring lessons include games too!

Tutoring lessons include games too!

I am a local Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR reading and writing tutor specifically for upper elementary through high school. I have 6 years experience teaching in a high- poverty junior/senior high classroom, and 10 years of teaching experience.

On top of my experience as a junior/senior high school teacher, which I deem the most admirable, I hold a Master of Education degree as a reading specialist/interventionist and am a certified teacher in Washington and Oregon. I currently design, write, and teach high school English and curriculum in an online setting, in order to have flexibility raising my two children.

Skills and Strategies

I focus on reading and writing strategies. Strategies help develop skills needed to be successful in school and career.  For example, I teach how to summarize, comprehend, compare and contrast etc. Because I don’t teach in a classroom, I can cut out the excess and keep it simple, Literally Simple. I follow research based strategies that are explicitly taught. These strategies will help students across the curriculum, not just with reading and writing. I teach how to read to learn, and effective ways to communicate through writing. I also pull from my experience as a physical education teacher and I make a game out of everything. I’m not a private education company or fueled by meeting sales quotas. I simply love to teach. See testimonials on how I have helped other local families and students improve their reading and writing.

Pay a Local Vancouver Tutor Directly to Save Money and Support Your Local Community

I am a Master Teacher specifically in reading and writing instruction, and have 10 years of experience in a middle school and high school classroom. Basically, your family gets the best of both worlds: an affordable price with an experienced tutor. In fact, I find ways for your child to get extra support for free.

You don’t sign a contract with me. I ask for 24 hours as a courtesy if cancelling a lesson, but for the most part students and families stay with me for years because I bring a quality service and kids continue to thrive. In fact, most of my current students were referred to me by other families who I have tutored.

I also quarterly donate profits from tutoring to our local Family and Community Resource Center. This organization routinely seeks families in need and provides necessities like winter coats, school supplies, hygiene products and much more through the public schools.

You can let me take care of the “prioritization” and you can enjoy being the parent. 🙂 Feel free to email me (maria@literallysimple.com)! I’d love to meet your family, provide tutoring instruction, and save you emotional energy.

P.S. I now only offer lessons in an online environment. We still read actual books and stories on a printed page, but I find this is the most convenient for families. Plus, it lowers my commute time, which in turn keeps the price always at 50$.

Happy reading!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Halcumb
